MKM Health, ANZ distributor of bedside monitoring technology solution Patientrack, has been awarded the top accolade at the New Zealand Healthcare Congress Awards.

Patientrack was originally conceived by New Zealand trained Intensive Care Specialist Professor Michael Buist. Patientrack helps hospitals by ensuring safer and better quality patient care, improved patient outcomes and experience while making the process of care considerably more efficient, enabling more patients to be treated and minimises wastage of expensive clinical resources.

The New Zealand Healthcare Congress Award recognises the “innovation, investment and hard work that goes into creating solutions that have a positive impact on the delivery of healthcare services”.

Kate Quirke, CEO for MKM Health says the award is recognition of the latest in mobile technology innovation that Patientrack delivers, and is a reflection of the team’s dedication and the value for clients who have embraced the platform.

“We are delighted that Patientrack has won the award which is recognition for everyone involved of the importance to innovate and keep working relentlessly to ensure safer and more efficient healthcare delivery in our hospitals through the early detection of, and timely clinical response to deteriorating patients and those at risk,” says Quirke.

Quirke says Patientrack uses the latest in innovative mobile technologies that are being adopted in New Zealand and other key markets such as the United Kingdom.

“Canterbury District Health Board and Waitemata District Health Boards both now use Patientrack. In the UK, Patientrack users have reported some impressive results including 100 per-cent accuracy in patient risk scoring; decreasing the average length of hospital stay by nearly three days; and one NHS trust reported that cardiac arrests dropped by up to two-thirds in the busiest areas of their hospital.”

David Meates, Canterbury DHB chief executive said he was thrilled to hear that Patientrack won the Innovation award at the New Zealand Health IT Awards last night.

“As the first DHB in NZ to be using Patientrack we’re delighted to see they’ve been recognised for what is a practical solution to a number of quality and safety challenges faced by DHBs. Our surgical teams who have been using Patientrack this year report that it’s easy to use and provides accurate/real-time information that is helping us improve patient care.”

Quirke adds that Patientrack is ideal for those healthcare providers looking to accommodate a mobile workforce. It is an excellent example of the innovative ways in which MKM Health works with leading healthcare providers who are seeking to better use information technology to both drive better outcomes for patients and meeting the challenge of delivering more services within a constrained funding environment.

“Patientrack releases time for nurses and clinical staff to spend more time on patient care. The time spent looking for patient information, manually competing patient records and alerting doctors to at-risk patients is greatly reduced thereby providing more time for nursing and medical staff to spend actually with the patient.”

The inaugural New Zealand Healthcare Congress Awards was established by the peak health industry body NZHIT (formerly known as the NZ Health IT Cluster) and MKM Health won over other worthy finalists, Orion Health, Atlantis Healthcare and Pathway Navigator.
